- I’m interested in whitening my teeth. How safe is it?
Dental Services in Indian Harbour Beach, FLYou can regain a feeling of youth and vitality with a whiter, brighter smile! Tooth whitening is one of the simplest forms of cosmetic dentistry available today. At our office, we offer two methods – both of which use the revolutionary ZOOM!® technology. If you would like to obtain up to eight shades of whitening in just one hour, you may elect to undergo treatment in our office; or, if you prefer a take-home kit, we offer the new three-day ZOOM!® “Weekender” kit – using the same patented ingredients and usually resulting in about a six shade improvement.
Remember, it is important that you and Dr. LoSasso have a brief consultation prior to your choosing a whitening system, since some people are better candidates than others for the treatment. For example, if your teeth are darkened to a yellow, brown, or orange tinge due to age, coffee, tea, or smoking, chances are very good that teeth whitening will bring lasting, satisfactory results.
However, if your teeth are a dark gray tone from fluorosis or tetracycline use, whitening results may be a bit less dramatic. Many people who have this type of staining want a more permanent solution and opt for porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are a great way to whiten your teeth in a more permanent fashion. The veneers do not stain over time, and they can also correct other concerns you may have, including crooked teeth, gaps in teeth, and “gummy smiles.” Most of the smile makeovers you see on television are accomplished with porcelain veneers. Ask Dr. LoSasso today what the best whitening option is for you, and enjoy the benefits of advanced cosmetic dentistry.
- What can I expect from my first dental visit?
You can expect to receive an overall dental and oral health assessment during your first visit, including a comprehensive oral evaluation. Upon completion of your medical/dental health form, we will ask you to tell us your goals regarding your smile, teeth, and gums. Additionally, X-Rays will be taken of your teeth to identify areas of decay, cracked teeth, and malfunctioning restorations. Our goal is to preserve as many of your teeth as possible by catching decay in its earliest stages. We’ll also assess your gums and recommend the appropriate hygiene treatment for you.
- What different payment options do you provide?
You have your choice of several payment options, including: cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. If you desire to set-up an easy payment plan for more extensive work, we encourage you to obtain interest-free or low-interest financing through our financial partner, CareCredit™ – a flexible patient/client payment program, specifically designed for healthcare expenses. CareCredit™ makes it easier for you to obtain the treatment or procedures you want and need, and it is ideal for co-payments, deductibles, treatment, and procedures not covered by insurance.

Please speak with our team member, Jamie, about how you can comfortably afford your dentistry and maximize your dental insurance benefits.
- Are amalgam (silver) fillings harmful?
No, Dr. LoSasso does not feel that silver fillings are harmful; however, he currently uses only composite or “white” fillings. A composite filling offers the following benefits: cosmetic enhancements (a more natural tooth color); stronger teeth (thanks to a special bonding process); and, sealed teeth (with decreased sensitivity to hot and cold).
- I keep hearing about porcelain veneers. What are they, and how do they differ from regular crowns?
Wear, tear, and discoloration over the years can make your smile look less dazzling than you might desire. With today’s technology, materials, and advanced techniques, you have many options for restoring your weak, broken, chipped, discolored, or crooked teeth to their original shape and function. There has never been a better time to restore your smile!
Dental Services in Indian Harbour Beach, FLIf your doctor has recommended a crown to you, it is probably to correct a broken tooth or to repair a tooth that has deteriorated due to cavities (decay). The decay in your tooth eats away healthy tooth structure much like rust eats away at metal. If not removed, decay will deteriorate the tooth to the point where extraction is the only viable treatment option. Sometimes, decay is removed leaving healthy tooth structure, but not much of it. A crown can then be placed, restoring the look and function of your tooth while allowing you to keep your natural, underlying tooth structure. Most crowns are precision-milled porcelain or full metal (gold or silver) and are individually customized for each application in each patient, giving you a natural, long lasting smile.
A veneer is a thin strip of porcelain that is bonded to the front of your tooth and artistically shaped to enhance the look of your smile. Porcelain veneers improve your appearance by correcting a multitude of cosmetic concerns including: gaps in teeth; chipped or broken teeth; dull or yellowing teeth that cannot be whitened by traditional means; “gummy smile” (showing too much gum when one smiles); and crooked teeth. Porcelain veneers broaden, straighten, whiten, and beautify most any smile. This procedure can be done in as little as two clinical visits. Many of our patients feel like this was the best improvement that could have been done for their overall confidence. Ask Dr. LoSasso about how porcelain veneers can improve your smile!
- How often should I have my teeth cleaned?
Typically, you would benefit from a professional cleaning and oral evaluation every four-to-six months; however, if you are prone to gum disease or to other ongoing health concerns, you might require more frequent visits. We will perform a thorough examination to determine what kind of continuing care will achieve your optimum dental health.
- Why do my gums bleed when I brush or floss my teeth?
It is certainly not desirable to have bleeding gums following brushing; however, the condition may or may not require attention, depending on the source of the problem. Bleeding gums can be caused by any of the following: a) brushing improperly (“rough scrubbing”) instead of using gentle, circular motions; b) brushing with a hard-bristled toothbrush instead of a soft one; c) build-up of plaque and/or tartar below the gum line; or, d) gum sensitivity due to gingivitis or periodontal disease. If this problem persists despite correct brushing and flossing methods, or if it occurs every time you brush, contact our office to set-up an evaluation appointment with Dr. LoSasso.

- I’m missing a tooth. What options are available to me?
By replacing missing teeth either with a bridge or implant, you will alleviate the problems associated with a missing tooth and will restore your smile to its beautiful, full appearance. A bridge is one solution for replacing a tooth. By using neighboring teeth as the supportive structure, Dr. LoSasso will place a porcelain restoration into the vacant space, restoring the functionality and look of your smile. A dental implant is also an excellent solution. Dental implants involve the placement of a titanium post directly into the jawbone. Once the post has bonded to the bone, it can act as a new, solid support for a natural looking, porcelain restoration. Implants can replace a single tooth or an entire set of teeth, offering more function and permanence than traditional dentures.
- Someone said I might have TMJ. What is that?
If you suffer from headaches, a popping jaw when you open or close your mouth, and pain in your jaw joints and muscles, you may have TMJ. TMJ, also known as TMD or Temporomandibular Joint Disease, is a condition from which many people suffer, but it can be treated. Based on the severity of your condition, Dr. LoSasso can recommend a course of treatment that will help alleviate your pain and make your day-to-day activities more pleasant.
