Your teeth undergo a tremendous amount of wear and tear during your lifetime. Teeth may show this wear in a variety of ways, including discoloration, chipping, and cracking. If you have experienced a natural decline in the appearance of your teeth, we at Brevard Smiles can help. With innovative Porcelain Crowns, you can achieve the beautiful looking smile that you desire.
What is a Porcelain Crown?
A porcelain crown is a covering that encases the entire tooth in order to restore its surface. Porcelain crowns differ from traditional crowns because they provide a more natural appearance that resemble the rest of your teeth. Although there are different types of crowns, porcelain crowns tend to be the most popular due to their natural look.
Crowns can be made of porcelain completely, porcelain pressed to metal, or precious metals, and crowns made of precious metal are also an option. After some preparation of the tooth or teeth that will receive the crown(s), Dr. LoSasso will position a custom-milled porcelain crown over your damaged tooth, restoring your smile to its once-brilliant condition and rejuvenating your oral health.
How Does it Work?
A crown procedure typically involves two separate appointments. The first appointment requires molds to be taken for accuracy when creating your permanent crown. The molds are sent to a lab where they are color matched and designed to fit you. The mold is also used to create your temporary crown.
Your tooth is then prepared for the crown by removing any decay, as well as shaping the tooth to the proper size. The temporary crown is then placed over the prepped tooth with temporary cement that is designed as a short term adhesive.
Once your permanent tooth has arrived, you can return for your second appointment to receive your personalized porcelain crown. During this treatment, a numbing method is provided in order to ensure optimal patient comfort. To prepare for your porcelain crown, your temporary crown is first removed. Your tooth is then cleaned, and your permanent crown is then gently placed over the tooth to ensure it properly fits. Your new porcelain crown is then permanently cemented over the damaged tooth for a beautiful and natural-looking smile.
